Asus T100TA Dock Keyboard USB mod
About a decade ago, 2-in-1 laptops/tablets came into their own with the release of Windows 8. This is the less loved half of one such device, the Asus Transformer Book T100TA.
It didn’t originally come with a USB cable spilling out, that was added later and is now documented here.
This keyboard/trackpad dock was spotted at a second-hand electronics store for under $5.
It had a proprietary connector (not pictured) to interface with the tablet half.
It stood to reason that even though connector was proprietary, it wouldn’t make sense to have proprietary signalling with something like USB being well established, readily available and… universal.
An afternoon of tracing pinouts lead to these four connections being made: two for power, two for data.
The USB3 passthrough isn’t wired up but does serve as a convenient spot to store a recovery flash drive.
And so now this becomes a compact, lightweight keyboard/pointer device (with all function keys present) making it perfect for troubleshooting computers and servers.
